Common questions
Why might my paycheck differ?
Income tax withholding depends on your W-4 and OR-W-4: extra withholding, other jobs, a working spouse, or dependents change it.
Some employers treat certain benefits differently for paid leave or WA Cares premiums.
Payroll systems round each tax per paycheck, so small differences are normal.
Is withholding the same as the tax I owe?
No. Withholding is a prepayment. Your actual tax is figured on your return, where credits like the EITC or child tax credit, and the new deductions for tips, overtime and seniors, can lower it. See the other calculators.
Does Washington have an income tax?
Washington has no tax on wages, so Washington paychecks have no state income tax withholding. Workers pay paid leave and WA Cares premiums instead.
What is the Oregon transit tax?
A statewide tax of one-tenth of 1% of wages that funds public transportation. It applies to Oregon residents wherever they work, and to people who live elsewhere but work in Oregon.
