See how much of the new $6,000 deduction you get at your income and whether it lowers your tax.
This is a federal income tax tool for tax year 2026 (the return you file in early 2027). It does not change SSI, SNAP or other benefits; those are on the benefits calculator.
From 2025 through 2028, each person who is 65 or older by the end of the year can deduct up to $6,000 more, on top of the regular standard deduction and the existing extra amount for age 65. A married couple who are both 65+ can deduct up to $12,000.
It shrinks by 6% of income over $75,000 ($150,000 joint). It doesn't remove tax on Social Security. It lowers taxable income, so it only helps if you would otherwise owe federal income tax.
