Under the limit doesn't mean you'll get the maximum: your benefit goes down as income goes up. Over the limit, a household with someone 60+ or disabled can still qualify. Full explanation in the SNAP income limits guide.

When will my SNAP arrive?

Your first month, and the month after a renewal, can come on a different day. Your approval letter has your date. See your next three dates on the EBT deposit schedule.

Common questions

How much SNAP will I get?
  1. Start with your household's monthly income. Subtract 20% of pay from work, a standard deduction ($217 for 1 to 3 people), and child care costs.
  2. Add up rent and your state's utility allowance. Whatever is more than half of your remaining income becomes a shelter deduction, up to $769 (no cap if someone is 60+ or disabled).
  3. SNAP expects you to spend 30% of what's left on food. Your benefit is the maximum for your household size minus that 30%.
What is the SNAP income limit in Oregon?

For most households, income before taxes under $2,660 a month for 1 person, $3,607 for 2, $4,554 for 3 and $5,500 for 4, adding $947 for each extra person. Those limits run March 2026 through February 2027.

What is the food stamps income limit in Washington?

Washington's Basic Food program uses the same 200% of poverty limits: $2,660 a month for 1 person, $3,607 for 2, about $4,553 for 3 and $5,500 for 4.

Is there an asset limit?

Not for most households under the income limit in either state. If your income is over the limit and someone is 60+ or disabled, you can still qualify with net income under 100% of poverty and assets under $4,750.

Does SNAP count my paycheck before or after taxes?

Before taxes. SNAP uses gross income, then takes off 20% of earnings to account for taxes and work costs.

Do I have to work to get SNAP?

Most adults 18 to 64 have to register for work. Adults without children under 14 in the household can be limited to 3 months of SNAP in 3 years unless they work or train at least 20 hours a week or are exempt, for example because of a disability that limits work.

How do I apply?

Oregon: apply online through ONE Oregon or call 800-699-9075. Washington: apply at Washington Connection or call 877-501-2233. Both states need an interview, usually by phone.

Does getting SNAP affect my other benefits?

No. SNAP doesn't count as income for taxes, SSI or Medicaid. Getting it can also qualify you for other help, such as school meals and phone and internet discounts.
